Obituary of Valerie Dorothea Aston

Please share a memory of Valerie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Valerie (Val) Dorothea Aston, 85, passed away peacefully on December 9th, 2019 in Halifax.

Val was born in Victoria, British Columbia where she formed some of her fondest memories and met her lifelong friend Anne. She went to Oak Bay High and then the University of British Columbia where she studied English and Geography. It was in Vancouver that she met and married Geoff, launching a 62-year affair that brought them two children (Megan and David) and took them first to Bowmanville, Ontario and eventually to the “other” coast.  Their family grew to include Mark (Megan) and Mandy (David), two granddaughters (Corey and Talia) and a grandson (Bradley).

She worked as a Real Estate Agent for 34 years, priding herself in always being on time for appointments (except maybe once!). She was an adventurous spirit and loved roller coasters, ziplining, fast convertibles and hot air balloons. Her adventures later in life included the CN tower Edge Walk and going up in a WWll 2-seater plane. Val loved writing limericks and poems, and often treated her friends (and even some acquaintances!) with her slick rhymes. She moved to Bedford, Nova Scotia two years ago, and was inspired to write more poems and short stories.

She is survived by her brother Mike, sister Vicki and nephew Warren and predeceased by her sister Darlene.

Geoff and family would like to thank the amazing health care professionals and staff at the Victoria General and Halifax Hospice for the compassionate care provided to Val.

We would also like to thank friends near and far for their supportive cards, phone calls, visits and meals.

If you would like to make a donation in Val’s memory you could choose either the Canadian Wildlife Federation http://www.cwf-fcf.org/en/ of which she was a long-time supporter, or the Halifax Hospice where she received compassionate end of life care https://hospicehalifax.ca/
