Leon Cole

Obituary of Leon Allen Cole

Please share a memory of Leon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

December 29, 1939 - December 5, 2019.

Leon was warm, funny, talented, and adored by family and friends. He was also the host of popular national CBC programs like Soundtrack and RSVP. At the Juno Awards one year he was introduced as "radio nice guy". On air and off, his warm baritone invited you to join him in a musical adventure or just some mischief. He loved his job of playing classical music requests but even more he rejoiced in his talented offspring.

Allen (Melody Johnson), Holly, Ted (Erin Sullivan) and Austin Cole will miss him and his fanatical support of the Boston Red Sox. He has three wonderful grandchildren, Dashiell, Desmond and Penelope. His wife Jacqui Good is delighted to have had 42 happy years to make radio together, to collaborate on many musicals (especially Gilbert and Sullivan) and to travel the world. What a swell party they had.

Leon was predeceased by his first wife, Carolyn (Underwood); and parents, Jean (Shaw) and Allen Cole. He is held dear by his sister, Lesley; her husband Steve; cousins, nieces and nephews and so many friends.

He had a talent for friendship and for playing the piano. A little Rachmaninoff maybe? Good night sweet prince.

A musical tribute for friends and family has already taken place.

Leon's ashes will be scattered this summer on Nova Scotia's South Shore.

Instead of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to make a donation to Two Planks and a Passion Theatre in Ross Creek, or to the arts organization of their choice.

A special thank you to the truly compassionate people in Palliative Care at the VG Site, QEII, in Halifax where Leon slipped away, surrounded by love and music.
