Obituary of Jude Angus Haller

Please share a memory of Jude to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On Wednesday, October 23, 2019, Jude Angus peacefully passed away after his outstanding and noble two year battle with Rhabdomyosarcoma- a rare and aggressive form of cancer. He was 3 years old. Jude proudly and fearlessly fought childhood cancer until the very end on the 6 Link Oncology Unit at the IWK.

Born on December 20th, 2015 in Halifax, NS, Jude was lovingly welcomed by his mother Ashley MacDonald (Seoras “Wowwie”) and Matthew Haller (Kaitlyn). A glowing light to the world, Jude’s old soul reminded everyone to notice and appreciate the little things in life like a wild paper airplane, a quiet moment to gently feed the ducks and the beauty and magic of crystals. Jude loved adventures and spending quality time at his cottage in Prince Edward Island and it was there where his true, beautifully innocent and goofy self could be a kid- running, laughing and enjoying a dance around a bonfire.

It was routine for Jude to have pockets full of rocks, acorns and other precious treasures from his adventures but throughout his lifelong journey, one of his most notable treasures was his camping trailer that was gifted to him by the Children’s Wish Foundation. He enjoyed outdoor summer adventures and playground outings, a flashlight beam and the glow of a fire at night and cool, quiet mornings spent snuggled with his family.

Jude was a natural performer and loved to display his talent accompanied by Wowwie on the ukulele. His favourite song to sing was “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story. When he wasn’t preforming he was winning over the hearts of everyone who met him by showing off his playful yet wise soul and despite his ongoing battle with cancer he wouldn’t turn down a race in the pink princess butterfly car at the hospital. His spirit was and still remains untouchable and unbreakable.

Jude’s ability to light up any room he stepped foot into was a gift to this world. Although we feel emptiness in our hearts at this time, his light still shines within us and that will never be replaced. He is always with us and he wants it to be known. On our dark and heartbroken drive home from the hospital, we were told that there was a crash of thunder and a flash of lightning that lit up the night sky and because Jude had a natural love for the mysterious wonder of nature, we believe that was the perfect sign from him to show us that he had made it safely to Heaven. We will be continuously reminded of Jude anytime we see a big bright moon, a deer, rainbow, butterfly or an airplane leaving behind a soft trail of clouds.

We want to say thank you to the staff at the IWK who knew Jude and to our wonderful community for the incredible support that we have received during our darkest times in the last two years. We will never forget the love you selflessly gave our family, especially the genuine love you have for our son. Jude will always be loved and he knew and felt that.

At the IWK, we especially want to thank Dr. Jason Berman, Dr. Bruce Crooks, Meredith Tasiopoulos and Shelley Rice. You will always be a part of our family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the 6 Link Oncology Unit or The Children’s Wish Foundation.

Celebration of Jude's Life will be held:
