Michael ‘Mike” Charles Gregory Gillis

It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the sudden passing of Mike Gillis at home on Tuesday, October 8,2019.

 Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Michael “Mick” and Darlene (Wells) Gillis.

Mike was an entertainer,  a great guy who loved a good joke,  a comedian at Daniel’s, a gifted artist and a very talented writer.  He was a kind and gentle person who will be missed by all who knew him.

 Mike is survived by his loving parents, Mick and Darlene Gillis; brother, Dave; sisters, Kristin and Heather;  special nieces and nephews, Breagh, Michaela, Mitchell and  Liam; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mike was predeceased by his grandparents, Willena and John Wells and Dan and Mary Ann Gillis; uncle Jack Wells; aunts, Margaret O’Neill and Catherine MacDonald.

The family would like to thank all  of Mike’s family and friends for all their support and kindness given to Michael over the years. A special thank you to Dr. Kent Cadegan for his kindness, support and compassion for Mike throughout the years, the house calls will never be forgotten. Thank you.

 Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Mike will be held Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 12-2 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Melvin Wheaton officiating all taking place at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).  Donations in Mike’s memory may be sent to the IWK.
