My deepest and most heartfelt condolences. Michael was my classmate through many of my elementary school years at St. Anne’s. I remember how fun and well liked he was and I visited the house on occasion to play He-man or Transformers. He had the coolest toys. We kind of lost touch when I went to Jr. High in Sydney but, In recent years, we reconnected on Facebook and I watched as he dealt with his adult life, comedy career etc... The world lost a special soul this week. May you, his family, find some comfort in each other at this difficult time and may his memory be a blessing.

My blessings go to Mike for the very positive impacts he's made on so many lives.
While I didn't have the pleasure to meet Mike in person, through his sister Kristin's loving words, I feel I knew him well.
God bless him, and us all, and may we use Mike's determination and inspiration to be all we can be.
Peace to Mike and his dear family.

I think of Mike a lot. He had a heart as big as his fragile body. People saw him in his power chair and made assumptions from the get go. They assumed he lacked full mental faculties. He rapidly correctly those misinterpretations. They assumed he wasn’t self sufficient. I’ve seen that guy navigate getting in and out of his chair with the adeptness of a gymnast. And yet I think about so much more for having a friend like Mike. I think about the fact that our coffee dates were limited to locations without stairs or with narrow entrances. I think about the fact that no matter where I lived in Cape Breton, the house or building had either no ramp or no elevator. In the winter I’m always reminded of how I can take accessibility for granted in a way Mike never could. He found humour in these things, to be sure, but like all too many great comedians, he hid great pain stemming from those aspects of exclusion that he mined for his stand up routines. I think about the fact that HandiTrans is a barebone response to a real need. You can’t schedule impulsivity, after all. And everyone deserves to be impulsive now and then. Mike struggled to be seen. But he made sure he was heard. He had so much to say about so many things. And what he said often came from an incredibly thoughtful place. We often spoke about the books we were working on. Mine a novel and his, an autobiography. He found it difficult to do himself justice. His default was a self deprecating joke. Mike was one of the most determined, passionate, and kind people I have ever had the good fortune to know. I will miss him deeply.

The last time I got to see Mike was when I was home last October and I had him as my guest at Mick Foley’s show in Sydney.
Mike met Mick and managed to get his manuscript into Mick’s hands. Mick loved it.
Little did I know the drinks we had after the show would be the last ones we shared together.
Mike was an inspiring fellow and played the hand life dealt him with the humour and courage I don’t know if I would have had in a similar situation. . I’ll miss our chats, his wit, and his incredible way of looking at life.
Hail to the King, baby.
Rest well, pal.

Only had the pleasure to meet Michael on one occasion, though in this short time his amazing strength of character was clear to see. An inspiration to say the least!
