Obituary of Catherine Marie Levangie
Please share a memory of Catherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine Levangie, our beloved mother, sister, grandmother and aunt.
Cathy was born in Halifax to Edward and Dorothy Clarke of Halifax, NS.
She is survived by her son, Craig; daughter-in-law, Dorothy (nee Hulshof); grandchildren Jenna, Morgan and Luke; ‘Honorary’ grandkids, Danielle and Kyle Levangie; sisters, Pat Butler and Mary Clarke; and brother Bobby Clarke. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Dorothy Anne, Marjorie and brothers Edward and Danny.
Mom, Cathy, Grammy-Pyjammy as she was affectionately called, was happiest around children. She adored her grandchildren and spoiled and doted on them at every opportunity. Cathy’s joy was greatest in her role as Grammy. She was that special, hard working grandmother who rolled up her sleeves and got down and dirty rolling in the grass or playing in the sand-box. Reading books, singing songs, watching movies and baking her infamous pies and fudge were some of her favourite activities with the grandkids. She was an exceptional loving mom to Craig, a wonderful friend and mother-in-law to Dorothy. Cathy was the queen of caring, loved deeply and decorated the lives of everyone around her with her kindness and generosity. Back in the day, she was a voracious reader who would devour a novel in one sitting, she loved playing BINGO (only to give all her winnings away!) and you never met her without a smile and a cold bottle of Pepsi in her purse! She taught high school for almost 30 years at Saint Patrick’s High school in Halifax touching the lives of many students. She lived by the golden rule and remained good friends with her ex husband Harold and wife Anne, celebrating many family celebrations together over the years. Cathy was one of a kind, a beautiful, compassionate soul who will be deeply missed. She is an angel among us and forever will watch over us.
Private funeral internment will be held at a later date.
Many thanks to the staff at The Berkeley, Northwood 7 Manor and 5 Centre for her care over the years.
