Obituary of Richard ‘Rick’ Charles Harley

HARLEY, Richard (Rick) Charles, 61 – Wolfville, NS Rick passed away peacefully after a brief illness on June 9, 2016 in the loving arms of his wife and best friend, Audrey Hennessey. Also by his side were his son Jason (Erin Barnes), Toronto, and daughter Jenna (Nathan Bradley), Kentville, whom Rick dearly loved and cherished. Rick graduated from Maritime Forest Ranger School in 1977, in Fredericton, NB and had a 35-year career as a Forest Technician at the NS Department of Natural Resources, ending his career as Supervisor, Kings County. He retired in 2013 and worked for a short time in a local vineyard. Rick had a kind, loving and witty personality. He enjoyed being outdoors exploring nature from hiking the woods and rugged coastlines, to kayaking and camping in unique communities. He also enjoyed spending time in nature with his devoted Labrador retriever, Quinn. He found great happiness and peace sharing these outdoor experiences with close friends and family. He was an avid golfer and was in his element when he shot a good round with his buddies! He is survived by his sisters Marlene Berriman (Keith), ON and Beverley Allen (Doug), NB. Stepchildren Sarah Collins (Travis), AB, Evan Mapplebeck (Jenna) and step-granddaughter Halle, NS. Close extended family Sean Myles and Gina Haverstock and their children Nate and Audrey, NS. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Dorothy and Jack Harley. A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at Manning Memorial Chapel, Acadia University, on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. There will be no visitation or reception at Rick’s request. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses from the Valley Regional Hospital Surgical Unit and the AVH Palliative Care Team for their genuine care and support. Rick, deeply loved, is already greatly missed.
