Rose (Marie) Harrington
Age 73, of Halifax, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2019 surrounded by her cherished family.
Marie was the daughter of the late John and Laura (Rogers) Jeffrey of Louisdale, NS. She was employed with the NS government for 33 years, retiring as a Driver Enhancement Officer and later returning for 5 more years in that role. She and Keith were proud owners of the Cape View Restaurant in Mavilette Beach, Digby County (1987-1994) where they enjoyed sharing their Acadian culture and cuisine.
Marie’s greatest legacy is the importance of family. She was the matriarch of hers and a deeply devoted mother and grandmother. She was fiercely proud of all her boys and embraced every moment with them. She cheered her grandsons on at hundreds of hockey games, earning the name “Hockey Nanny.” She took great pride in helping shape her grandsons into the fine young men they are today.
Marie’s enthusiasm and zest for life was contagious; she was a bright light, authentic to the core, and touched the lives of many people. She made friends everywhere she went and took the extra time to make people feel special. She had a large social network through her weekly card games, Casino evenings and TOPS program. Her cheerful help will be missed at the Harrington Christmas Tree family business.
One of Marie’s greatest joys was cooking for her family and friends. Her home was always open, and that included a love-filled meal for all who visited. She was a fabulous cook with an amazing repertoire of traditional recipes in her head. We will all miss the way she filled our hearts and bellies.
We know that Marie will be watching over her loving family: her husband Keith of 56 years, sons Chris (Monica) and Colin (Julie) of Halifax; grandsons Carter, Logan, Cameron & Rylan; sisters Shirley (Ralph), Tina (Ken); brothers Douglas (Linda), Raymond (Leah), Bobby (Brenda); numerous nieces and nephews who were like her own children; her dearest friend Lise and other close cousins. Keith’s side of the family was equally dear to her: Edward (Emilda), Elaine (Adolf), Irene (Yvon), Richard (Elaine) and their wonderful children.
We extend our deep thanks to the medical staff who guided Marie these past weeks, especially Dr. French and the nurses of 6A at the VG hospital; your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
Arrangements have taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Bedford. (902-835-4212)
