Dear Pat, Judy, Vicky, Dorothy-Ann, Ted, Phyllis-Lee, Tracy,
Your family has always been in my heart from the time we were together when I was infant in your old house in Dartmouth to wonderful summers at the cottage on Waverley Road and happy times at the house (was it in Fall River?) and then Lower Sackville.
Your Mom and Dad and all of you showed this only child how loving and fun a big family could be. When I think of your parents’ capacity to love all of you and then take in extras like me, the Pooh’s and many others, I know we are all blessed by the expansive love they had to give.
I think sometimes as we grow into adults and have our own families, we don’t think that there may come a time when people special to us will no longer walk this earth. I don’t think I ever thought of a world without your Mom or your Dad. In my world, there is some truth to that. Although they won’t be here in person, on this earth, I know they will always be around – around you, around me, and around all those they loved.
Sometimes, when we least expect it, you will see one of them in the face of another, you will feel their presence as you open the fridge door, or go for a walk in a favourite place. To all of you, your Mom and your Dad gave you such a great gift: a loving, caring family.
Your Mom was a wonderful human being who knew how to love. What a wonderful legacy to leave behind.
