Obituary of Christina Gertrude Poole
Please share a memory of Christina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Poole, Christina Gertrude 96, died peacefully at her home in Herring Cove on October 20th. She was predeceased by Ernest, her husband of 74 years, her eldest son Ernest Jr., and grandsons Davey Little and Mark Poole.
Gertie will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, who will remember her for her kindness, generosity, and sassy sense of humour, as well as her honesty; she always told it like it was. She will also be remembered for the turkey feasts she prepared for her family at every holiday until she was 93.
Gertie always worked hard. She spent many happy hours toiling in her home and garden. Before retiring at 68, she worked for 27 years as a waitress and manager at the Ardmore Tea Room in Halifax. Her unique personality made a lasting impression and she was very popular with the Ardmore’s regular customers, many of whom remember her to this day.
Heartfelt thanks to the palliative care team, the VON, and her caregivers who helped the family care for Gertie in the home she loved during her final weeks. A special thank you also to her long time caregiver Elizabeth, who was like another granddaughter to her.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.
