Obituary of Richard Frederick Fines

Fines, Richard Frederick (Dick) 89 of Halifax passed away October 21, 2016 at Maplestone Enhanced Care with his loving family by his side. Born in Watrous, Saskatchewan, he was a son of the late Robert and Eliza Fines (Potts). Dick attended public and high School in Saskatoon. He started working at Mutual Life of Canada in 1948 and worked there for 41 ½ years, retiring in 1990 as the Manager of Property Investments for the Atlantic Provinces. He was a member of Bethany United Church for 48 years and enjoyed travelling, bowling, tole painting, reading, and building or fixing things around the house. He was involved with the Jollimore softball for 10 years and loved music. He is survived by his loving wife Herberta (Herbie) of 65 years; three daughters, Debbie Fines, Donna (Kevin) Henry, and Doreen Fines (Erroll) Hirtle; sister Doris Keim; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Anne Robinson and brother, Kenneth Fines. Memorial service to be held Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11:00 am in Bethany United Church at 7171 Clinton Ave, Halifax, B3L 3Y8, with Rev. Kevin Little officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Cremation has taken place. Remains to be placed at St. John’s Columbarium, family only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, Bethany United Church or a charity of choice.
