Richard had been a part of our Maplestone Family for a short time, but he will be dearly missed. Richard always enjoyed the music programs at Maplestone. I enjoyed watching his feet going to the music and singing along. Richard had led a full life, and you have many wonderful memories to cherish and hold deep in your heart. My deepest sympathy to you Herbie and all your family on hearing the passing of Dick. As a real estate agent with Canada Permanent Trust, I worked with Dick on mortgages for my clients. It was always a pleasure to work with him, as he was a true professional and a great gentleman. We have lost a great one and one I will always remember.

My sincere condolences to Herbie and the girls for your loss. Dick was a wonderful mentor to me in my career in the mortgage business. I recall one time long ago, I had made what I thought was a huge error and a client was very angry with me. I was very upset and had to go into Dick’s office to explain what had happened. Dick listened quietly, looked over my notes and calmly said “well, the world is not going to come to an end”. I have long forgotten what the nature of my mistake was but I never forgot what he said. I worked for Dick from 1983 until 1990, he was a true gentleman and it was an honour to know him.

My sincere condolences to Herbie and the girls for your loss. Dick was a wonderful mentor for me and I still think very fondly of him and remember his kindness and patience as I began my career in the mortgage business. I recall making a mistake on a transaction and a client was very angry with me. I was young and very upset and had to go into Dick’s office to tell him what happened. Dick looked over the notes, listened to what had happened and calmly said “well, the world is not going to come to an end.” I forgot the details of my mistake, but never forgot what he said. I worked with Dick from 1983 to 1990 and will treasure my memories of this kind gentleman.

So very sorry to hear this news. I have so many memories of “Mr. Fines”… From the day you all moved to Randolph Street, him driving us to school after we bugged him so much he just gave in and his great friendship with my Dad and all the other ” guys” on the street! He is part of that generation of men that were decent, good men. He will be missed and I am very sorry for your loss.
