Dorothy Daisy Pyke Obituary

PYKE, Dorothy Doreen Daisy (Pointon),93, oh Halifax, passed to the Angels on November 12, 2016 at Melville Lodge Palliative Care Unit with loved ones at her side. Born in Meriden England Dorothy received her full education at the Earl of Aylesford College for Women in England. October 1942 she married a Canadian Soldier and as a War Bride arrived in Canada through Pier 21 on February 10, 1946. Dorothy was an expert in china and silverware, her working career being Simpsons, The James House and Gifts International. She remained active in the War Brides Association – Halifax Chapter, Fairview United Church for 64 years, Monarchist League of Canada, and the Northwood Players; being an Actor in three movies topped her story. She was still doing her daily puzzles, the New York Times and the Menzies Toughies well into her 90’s. This dear Lady was survived by her daughters: Barbara (Ernest) Ritchie, Halifax; Heather (Jerry Tobin) Goodyear, Lower Sackville; Grandchildren, Stephen (Jade) Ritchie, Ottawa, Denise (John) MacTavish Lower Sackville, Donna (Bobby) Horne, Minesville, Tawny (Craig) Hinton, Massachusetts, Terri (Colin) Slaunwhite, Calgary, Tracey (Neil Kendall) Goodyear, Middle Sackville, foster daughter Cas (John) Hiscoe, Halifax; Nine Great Grandchildren and two Great, Great Grandchildren; as well Nieces and Nephews in England. Dorothy outlived her beloved husband Clyde Pyke, Halifax, Parents Geoff and Charlotte Pointon, sister Ivy Brown all of Coventry England. Brenda Chediak a chosen foster grand daughter and son-in-law Leonard Goodyear were a deep loss. Many passed through her life but everyone she has left behind are friends. Cremation has taken place through T J Tracey Cremation, at Dorothy’s request burial and scriptures for family only will take place Thursday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery Sackville, Salvation Army to officiate. Donations may be made to Bide-Awhile. Special thanks to Linda, Jill and Leona of Melville Lodge for their care of Our Queen Mom.
