Stephen “Stevie B” MacNeil, 76, of Glace Bay, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 27, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with his devoted wife, Elaine by his side. Stevie B. was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia to Francis and Catherine (McInnis) MacNeil. He graduated from Saint Anne’s High School in 1957 and from St. Francis Xavier University in 1961. On August 14, 1965 he married the former Elaine MacPherson and in their fifty-two years together, the two were rarely very far apart. Stevie B. was an educator and administrator who left a mark on many students who sat before him during his 34 year career, most of which was spent at MacDonald High School in Dominion, NS. He reveled in sharing stories of his teaching days when he ran into his former students. Early in his teaching career, he loved coaching hockey. Golf became his passion and he truly enjoyed his time on the golf course as a long-time member of Lingan Golf & Country Club – later serving as a board member and president. He also served as vice president of the Nova Scotia Golf Association. He became an avid walker and many mornings could be found on Dominion beach. He loved taking in all his grandchildren’s sports and activities, and he always enjoyed getting together with his great friends. His winter weekends were spent watching hockey and closely monitoring his hockey pool. Stevie B. is survived by his beloved wife Elaine, his children, Lisa (Scott), Porters Lake; Stephen (Kelly), Glace Bay; and Leslee (Adam), New Glasgow. He will be forever missed by his five grandchildren, Kayla, Emily, Kate, Avery and Beckett whom he loved very much. Stevie leaves behind two sisters; Joan (Ken), Florida, and Lorraine (Jerry), Waverley. He leaves cousin Alexander (Pat), Stellarton, whom he always considered a brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Catherine, and parents in law John and Martha MacPherson. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 2 in St. Anne’s Parish, 695 Main Street with Father Leo Boone officiating. Family burial will follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made the Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St, Glace Bay, (902) 849-4199.
