Elaine and family, take solace in knowing there are many heavy hearts as witnessed by the the tributes above. Stevie B was in a class of his own, both in school and in life in general. I too recall piling into his car to be driven to the Glace Bay forum for hockey practice. I hadn’t seen Mr. MacNeil for over 50 years, but I had spoken of him many times, and all with the fondest of memories.

Lisa and family,
Our condolences on the passing of your Dad. He is fondly remembered as a great teacher and good man. He and My Father would chat often when they met for the yearly hockey pool draft, at the arena, or when they attended UCCB hockey games with their friends. I shared many laughs with your Dad in the halls of MacDonald High and looked forward to seeing him each day. He has left a lasting memory on the Scott family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Stevie B MacNeil. Both myself and my wife Jackie Beaton (Graham) had the good fortune of having Stevie B as an algebra/trig, physics & chemistry teacher in grades 10-11-12 during the late 60s early 70s. For myself, Stevie B was a godsent educator that literally changed my thinking & self confidence in what would later result in the completion of an engineering degree followed by a successful and rewarding career on the west coast of Canada. As I have told many people, many times over the past 40 years, Stevie B’s had a humble & understated brilliance and his unique teaching style just clicked for his students. Through that student/teacher relationship, Stevie B influenced and encouraged many MacDonald High students to pursue science, math & engineering degrees. Besides his academic impact, Stevie B was also our hockey and soccer coach, consistent yearbook committee supporter (loaning students his very cool maroon Mustang car for our use in soliciting sponsors) and role model. Farewell to a great Cape Breton gentleman and mentor. He will be missed and remembered often.

Our heart aches for you Elaine and your family. It is so difficult to lose your husband, a father, grandfather, brother and such an icon to so many lives that Steve touched in his lifetime. Impressions he made on so many of his students
who are grateful for his guidance and his gift of caring. My brother Johnie still has
letters of reference that Stevie wrote him over 45 years ago. He was a blessing
to all who knew him and knowing how much you are hurting right now, take comfort
in knowing that he will be grateful missed in this life.
You are a dear friend Elaine

Elaine and family, I am surprised and saddened to hear of Steve’s passing. He was a great guy and one of the very best teachers to walk the halls of Mac Donald High, well respected by all. I have never heard a student say anything negative about Stevie B. Everyone knew he was a great teacher, smart, approachable and would help anyone he could. He certainly enjoyed coaching our school hockey team, I have fond memories of the whole team piling into his 58 Chevy at 6am. heading to the Glace Bay Forum to practice before morning class. The world has lost a great man.

Dear Elaine and family:
I am greatly saddened to read of Stevie B’s passing. It brought me back to his attempt at teaching “new math” to parents like me way back when. Amid your deep sorrow I know that God likes to see a smile, and during life you and Stevie brought plenty of smiles to those around you.
God bless you all.
With heartfelt sympathy and understanding,
Thelma MacKenzie
