Obituary of Stephen Keith Isnor

Stephen Keith Isnor, 58 of East Gore, passed away January 3rd, 2017 in the arms of his beloved Joanne. Predeceased by his father Howard “Roy” Isnor, and Papa, Adrian Rink (Omemee, Ontario). He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Joanne (Benoit); son Stephen (Cassandra), Mount Uniacke; daughter Melissa (Marc) Wallis, Enfield; grandchildren Jayelle, Katie, Madison, Devon, Aden and Fraser; his Mama, Anne Rink, (Omemee, Ontario); his brother Paul (Cally), Waverly; sister Susan (David) Morton, Halifax; and uncle Robert “Buddy” and Auntie Fay. Further survived by our honorary family, Harold (Kristie) Rink, Musquodoboit, and many treasured friends, nieces and nephews. Proud to have grown up in North End Halifax, he enjoyed regaling others with tales of his boyhood escapades. Always mechanically inclined, he would become one of the youngest Motor Vehicle Inspectors in Nova Scotia. He would later drive for Day and Ross; eventually owning and operating his own truck. A lifelong passion for motorcycles was highly selective -only a Harley would do. He and Joanne shared many adventures riding with friends. He joined the Canadian Coast Guard in the early 1980s. His first ship was the steamer Edward Cornwallis, and he later served on the new Edward Cornwallis. He would finish his career on the Hudson, but his favorite ship was Sir John A. MacDonald, where he made many lifelong friends. Steve began his career as an oiler, working his way to Second Engineer. Steve’s favorite place was always the engine room with “his boys”. Notable career accomplishments included becoming a Rescue Specialist, weathering the “Perfect Storm”, and aiding in the Swiss Air recovery effort. His favorite trips were in the early days, breaking ice in the Arctic. He was awarded an Exemplary Service Medal in 2006, and retired in January 2016. Steve was most proud of being a husband, a Dad, and an Opa. He often said it was “love at first sight” when he met his darling Joanne at the tender age of 15. They were inseparable after that, and there was never Steve without Joanne, or Joanne without Steve. He was a man that wasn’t afraid to say “I love you”, said it often, and always with a hug. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 14th from 2:00 – 4:00pm and 6:00 – 8:00pm at St. John’s Anglican Church, 2187 Larry Uteck Blvd. A celebration of Steve’s life will be held Sunday, January 15th, at 1:30pm at St. John’s Anglican Church. Reception to follow. Cremation has taken place, and no flowers please (Steve had hay fever). Donations may be made to the Colchester East Hants Hospice Society. He was a member of Clarke Lodge #61 Chester A.F. & A.M. A Masonic service will be held at 5:30pm on January 14th at the St. John’s Anglican Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J.
