Christopher “Mike” Battson, 83 of Lower Sackville passed away on January 5, 2017 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in London England, he was the son of Christopher and Mary (Gerrard) Battson. He enjoyed reading, travelling, spending time with friends at the Legion, as well as walking family pets Toke and Chloe. Mike entered the work force at age 16 as a clerk. After completing his two year compulsory military service in the British army he joined the merchant marine, first as a steward then as a radio operator. He came to Canada in 1960 to work in Frobisher Bay. He subsequently attended university, first in Los Angeles and later McGill, becoming a meteorologist. His work with Environment Canada took the family from Quebec to Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and eventually Nova Scotia. Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years Denise (Darveau); son Michael; and granddaughters Elise and Abigail. He was predeceased by his parents; brother Edward; and daughter in law Marlene. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11:30am in the Sackville Legion on Sackville Cross Road. Internment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff of unit 8.2 at the Halifax Infirmary for the excellent care provided to Mike in his final days, and to Dr. Brian Ashton for his many years of dedicated attention.
