Karen , my name is Joan Waddell (Robson)I was raised in Brock and went to school with Vern.I am very sorry to hear of his death . I often would think about family’s and friends I don’t see or hear from and Vern was one of those. This morning I I decided to google his name and found this notice.I want you to know as a small town girl and group of friend that grew up together we all wondered where Vern got to and how he was doing. We had a reunion 10 yrs ago and I’m not sure if received an invitation or not , I’m sorry if he didn’t.We missed him and would have loved to see you both.It sounds like he had a great life and I am happy for you. May God Bless and keep you.

To the family of Vern,
I send my condolences to you for the loss of losing your loved one, Vern.
It seems that we are never ready to pass away, which shows that our Creator did not intend life to end. A comforting promise is when “He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more . . . nor pain be anymore” in the Paradise to come”, right here on earth. (Revelation 21:4)
Please accept these thoughts toward you,
Chris

We are very saddened of Vern’s farewell. We were full of hope to meet him in this summer again. He was such a strong person, full of selfconsciousness in a good manner. We love his thoughts and subtle irony.
As the new neighbors, we met Vern only in 2016. Unfortunately. We wished that we would have met long before, to spend many years together.
Though suffering strong pain he often advised us und helped us. In our chats we loved to hear him laughing, he did’nt accept the world’s lunacy. He loved the houses he had built, our house too.
Now we will talk to him sitting on the deck and viewing of the beloved ocean.
Your friends Burckhard and Ulla

So very sorry for your loss Karen. He was loved by all who knew him. “Ski” was a large man with a large personality who would never harm a flea unless it bit him or one of his loved ones including his wingers, (then look out!!!). I sailed with “Ski” on the Assiniboine & bunked with him, Tim & Brian in St Hubert’s, Quebec, on a six month refit. We rode our Triumphs to Port Dover & back to Halifax in 1971. We had a blast! He was the real “Easy Rider”. He was “Best Man” for my marriage to Lenie den Haan. “Ski” will be missed very much. Ride that “Hog” throughout the Cosmos. You are free now. Your Winger forever, Fletch

Karen and family, we would like to offer you and your family our deepest and most sincere condolences. It’s been many years since last seeing Vern, but we/I will always remember the good times spent together with him on Vancouver island, during the late seventies. Yes, he was as big as life, and I fondly recall him introducing us to Bob Dylan’s album, Long Train Coming, it touched our lives and for the better in so many ways, that we will be forever grateful to him. Rest in Peace Vern
Sincerely,
Len and Joanne Doward

It seems impossible to think of Verne in the past tense. A great big bear of a man with a ready hug and a glint of mischief in his eye, always ready to tell a story or sail off into the horizon. Our condolences go to all who will miss him so much.

I am sorry for your loss Karen, and Kimberley, and the rest of your family. I know Vern’s larger than life presence will leave a big hole in your lives.
I will miss Vern. He and I shared a kindred spirit particularly about sailing and cruising in the Caribbean. One of the best trips of my life was spending a month with Vern refitting and delivering Cybele from Trinidad to the BVI’s and all the adventures in between.
I will always regret missing out on our last dark and stormy together with John.
May the wind always be at your back Vern! See you someday again at Foxy’s. Forever your friend, David.

I am very saddened to hear of Vernon’s passing. I work at Lee Valley Tools and have many dealings with him. He was always slightly amazed that I remembered his name (and how to spell it correctly!) in order to look up his customer number.
I will miss him at the store. He was a character!
Sending my sincere condolences to his family.
