Amelda Marie (Legnaro) Locke
Dominion
It is with profound heartache that we announce the passing of our beloved Marie, age 68, on November 24, 2018. She slipped away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, comforted by the undying love of her family, steadfast at her side.
Marie was born and raised in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia to the late Benedict and Lillian (Ward) Legnaro. She is the beloved sister to five brothers Ben (Lillian), Glace Bay, Angelo (Gail), Ottawa, Mario (Corry), Ottawa, Michael (Laurie), Glace Bay, David, Glace Bay, and two beautiful sisters, Gemma (Al) Lannon, Truro, Diane (Michael) MacDonald, Glace Bay, and treasured aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Besides her parents, Marie was predeceased by her two sisters, Rosa and Linda.
Mom married her first love, Thomas ‘Tom’ Locke, on April 19, 1969; now just months shy of celebrating their 50 year anniversary. During her younger years, Mom worked at Mattel Corp., Ontario. In 1975, they moved to Neville Street, Dominion. She was employed for years at MacLeod’s Nursing Home before making the decision to devote her life to her family and home. She was unwavering when it came to her family; we were her life and her greatest pride and joy. Mom enjoyed sharing all our successes as our greatest cheerleader, pillar of strength and courage, and confidant. She taught us kindness, love, forgiveness, compassion, and patience and had done so, leading by example in her everyday life. Mom loved her many walks with Dad by the ocean at Dominion Beach, assisting in countless household projects, and laughing with good company. Welcoming her six grandchildren into the world, becoming Grandma/Nana, and spending time with them was pure joy. This phenomenal woman, who epitomized Motherhood, had an infectious smile, larger than life sense of humour and countless loveable ‘Marie-isms’. She was easy to be around and adored, “to know her was to love her.” Mom was an adherent member and volunteer of the Immaculate Conception Parish.
Marie is survived by her devoted husband, Tom; children, Troy (Joseanne), Ottawa, Tanya (Stewart Merrill), British Columbia, and Benny (Sherri), Halifax; her adoring grandchildren, Jessica, Lillian, Donna, Michael, Benny, and Rosa.
In honouring Mom’s wishes, there will be no visitation and cremation has taken place. Under the direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, a funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 11am in Immaculate Conception Parish with Fr. Boudreau officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. All are invited to join the family at the parish hall for a reception afterwards. Expression of sympathy may be sent to the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com.
Our family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to the ICU Nursing Staff for their professional yet tender care of mom, Dr. Wong, Dr. Brake, Dr. Sebastian (along with Debbie & Mary), T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists for their professionalism and support, Joseanne Godbout, and our Neville Street ‘family’ for always being there.
