Obituary of Murray Lawrence Young

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father at the age of 91 in Dartmouth N.S. on July 2 2017 with his beloved family by his side. Born in Ostrea Lake he was the son of the late Vincent and Maude (Williams) Young. Murray (Dad) lived such a great rewarding life because of his pleasant outlook on life, his dedicated love for his family, and the enjoyment he received from working around his home and boat. His accomplishments in life were many, and as superintendent with Chaddick Plumbing and Heating of Halifax he helped to build some of the important cornerstones in our great city of Halifax, like the 33 story Fenwick Towers, VG Hospital, St Mary’s University, and Sears to name a few. His deep passion for the sea prompted him to build his 33 foot cabin cruiser on which we traveled the coastlines of Nova Scotia during our summer vacations. As Dad said many times, his greatest achievements in life came after he met his beautiful wife (our mom) Betty. After buying their first home in Purcell’s Cove, life came together as Dad and Mom worked hard to create a stable life full of great memories for their cherished family. Dad was also a great fiddle player and enjoyed dancing on Saturday nights with his wife and many friends. Looking back over our fathers life, we now realize that he had one of life’s most valuable gifts – the ability to enjoy life in its most simple forms, like listening to the wind blowing through the leaves of his favorite maple tree, or sitting by the salt water hearing the waves breaking on the rugged shoreline, and the sounds of the seagulls gently flying in the ocean breeze. Dad was always at peace when he sat and listened to these sounds, especially when his dog Pepper was by his side. He was a great man, father, husband, grandfather, brother, and will always be remembered for his gentle composure, helping hands, and great sense of humor. He is survived by sons, Wayne (Marion), Jim (Joyce); daughters, Cathy (Albert) Driscoll, Cynthia (Dan Blackburn) Young; grandchildren, Suzanne, Peter, Jason, Robert, Christopher, Lindsay; great grandchildren Jacqueline, Josie, Drew, Madison, Gracie, Ella, Max, Molly, Justin and Brayden; Sisters Helen Gerard-Collins Dartmouth, Joyce DeWolfe Easter Passage; sister-in-law Noreen Young Cole Harbour. He was pre deceased by Betty, his wife of 60 years; brother Reggie; sisters, Inez, Jean and Eleanor. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will take place at a later date. A special thanks to the kind staff members on the 4th floor of Ocean View Manor, we dearly appreciate your kindness and care that you all gave to our Father. At this time we would also like to thank Dr. Peter Petropolis for his kindness and dedicated care he gave to our Father and Mother over the years as well as his friendship.
