Dear Rita,
It was with profound sadness that Harry and I heard of the passing of Joe. This news was read out yesterday at Holy Family Church in Deux Montagnes where you sang with the choir for several years. We hope that you and Joe spent many happy years in your new home in Nova Scotia. Your departure left a gap in our lives but I have very warm memories of your participation in the choir. Joe would always come up on the choir loft after Mass and greet us with such good humour. We pray for you and the family.

To Rita & Joe’s family,
I am saddened by the news of Joe’s passing. I send you my deepest condolences. I regret I am unable to attend Joe’s Celebration of Life.
I fill myself with joyful memories of the times I shared in Joe’s company. Joe was the kind of person who didn’t need a flashlight, he lit up any room with his presence.
Joe had a wonderful and unique sense of humour. My fondest memories are the many occasions where Joe had me roaring in laughter….like the time, Joe, the avid driver, asked me how far we traveled on the first day of our Florida trip. Joe, who had traveled as far as Connecticut, US was in hilarious laughter when I answered Amherst, NS. Laughing so hard I couldn’t explain further, the more I explained, the more laughter and for many years to follow we would still start laughing about this story.
On the other hand having a good laugh with Joe has often been a great stress reliever. I remember a particular tough year at the Fiddle Festival when we were faced with many challenges, Joe’s laughter and lightheartedness helped me in a positive way.
As I write this, Joe , rest in peace – you’ll always bring a smile to my day.

Let me start by telling you that we are so sorry to hear about Joe’s passing, and our hearts goes out to Rita and his family. For the last 3 years we’ve had the pleasure of having Joe and Rita over for Thanksgiving Dinner, and we considered them part of our family. Joe had this smile and laughter about him that was so contagious, and we loved him as a brother. Every Thanksgiving Joe and Rita played cards with all of us, and we had such a great time, and there was one time that someone had said something that made Joe blush, and we laughed and laughed, and all of us we just could not stop laughing. I wouldn’t be a bit surprise if he’s playing cards right now in heaven, and he’s the one making everyone laugh because that is what Joe did. He had a big heart, and at a moment’s notice, he would help anyone that needed it. We were sad to hear of Joe’s passing, and at the same time we were relieve that he is no longer in pain and he’s with God. Remember God needed him more than we did, and someday we will all be reunited. We know he is at peace and he is one of God’s Angels, and we will miss you Joe!
