Joyce lived in Sutherlands River and I lived in Edgerton. We met in the fall of 1951. We started at school together at the One room School house of Sutherlands RiverSchool.
We were best friends. Her mother (Mama Jean) Became like a mother to me.
Joyce was my BFF. We were both in the CGIT at church.
We go Out onHalloween together. Getting lots of candy. Then I’d spend the night at her house.
Then when we went to high school, Joyce went to college in university to further her career in early childhood education.
I got married and had four kids and was a stay at home mom.
She would come home on vacation and come visit me.
Then my husband, Ed, got a job in Halifax at Addressagraph And Multigraph. And we moved there from Edgerton.
It was there that Joyce and Ross met each other. They fell in love and got married in Sutherlands River.
They moved to Hammonds Plains and adopted their two children.
They were great parents.
My book of love was the Bible. Joyce’s Bible was nature. She loved to feed the birds and the animals. She loved to plant flowers. She even gave me a slip of Mama Jean’s Christmas cactus, that her grandmother gave her. I still have it, even though it never bloomed.
Then Ed and I with our four kids moved to Alberta in 1973. Joyce and I would write back-and-forth to each other or weird phone..
Since Joyce had her major stroke, she couldn’t write she couldn’t phone she couldn’t see. But our friendship never ended.
Just before that awful stroke
Joyce would always in the spring look for four leaf clovers so she could send me one. She sent me one with a note and if I can find it, I will take a picture of it and put it in for her memory book.. I published a poem book and I put the same note in it from my friend.
I’m honoured to be known to David and Anne-Marie as aunt Jude.
“ When someone we love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.”
Until it’s my time to rest in, Christ, Joyce will always be a treasure in my heart, right beside my husband Ed.
I love you kids, may God bless you with peace and health, & Comfort as you’re going through this tough time In the lost your mom.
Love
Aunt Jude
