Obituary of Gary Zinck

Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gary Richard Zinck of Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia, passed away on November 8, 2024, at the young age of 74 at the QEII. Gary was born on October 15, 1950 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was the son of the late Wilfred Martin and Gladys Latisha (Harrie) Zinck. He was predeceased by his brother William Lester Zinck. Gary is survived by his loving wife (his co-pilot of 52 years), Susie Zinck (Smeltzer), his three daughters, “My Charlie’s Angels”, Lisa (Wayne) Keddy, Tara (Donnie) Berkman, and Jody Zinck (Bryan Allen). He was also so proud of his 6 grandchildren, Connor and Victoria Berkman, Phoenix Christmas and Zachary, Lauren and Hannah Keddy. All of which remain close in heart and home in Halifax. Gary is also survived by his first cousins, Stewart, Wayne, Lester, and Darrell Harrie, his best friend Carl Blackmore and his many nieces and nephews who meant so much to him. Gary was an extremely hard-working man who worked up until his last days as a courier. He loved driving, taking road trips with his wife, especially in his new Town & Country, and being around people. In his earlier years Gary played hockey and softball and later coached little league baseball for his daughters' teams as well as woman’s softball. Over the last 21 years he enjoyed watching his grandkids play various sports, including football, soccer, baseball, volleyball, basketball, and dance. When he wasn’t home you would find him out looking for the best deals in town. It didn’t matter what you were looking for, he knew where to get it and at the lowest price. If you needed to know where to get lobster at the best price, he was your guy. Gary also enjoyed his yearly May long weekend fishing trips with his buddies, Carl, Wayne, Terry, Greg and his late brother Bill. Gary thoroughly enjoyed being among family and friends and was the happiest with his loved ones around him. He was the greatest host; he always made sure your cup and belly were full. In recent years, you would find him out on his patio along with his wife listening to music, enjoying good food and drinks, and reminiscing about all the wonderful memories they have shared together throughout the years. Gary also had a love for all animals; cats, dogs, ducks, and even minnows. If he saw an animal in need, he would scoop them up and bring them home. Over the years there were many animals that came through our door, and we are sure they are all with him now getting all kinds of snuggles, especially Waggles, his beloved beagle. Millie will miss him most but will keep his seat warm. Our family would like to sincerely thank the compassionate paramedics who cared for him in his final moments and to all the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff in the emergency room at the QEII. Gary was the most genuine and gentle soul. He treated everyone with grace and kindness. His perspective on life is something we should all strive for. His love, acceptance and positive outlook on everything has made us better human beings. We have been truly blessed by his life and are grateful for everything he has instilled in us. Please join us on Friday, November 15th, at 10am for a graveside service at Sunrise Cemetery, 2025 Prospect Road, Hatchet Lake followed by a Celebration of Life at the Spryfield Legion, 7 Sussex Road, Spryfield at 3pm. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Bide Awhile Animal Shelter or the SPCA. Dad, you will be missed beyond measure. Your departure has left a huge gap in our family. We cannot thank you enough for all the wonderful memories you left with us. You were such a beautiful person. Please know that we will take care of each other and never forget how much you meant to all of us. Until we meet again, we love you most! xoxoxoxoxoxo
