Obituary of Gordon Paul Leon

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Paul Leon, 76, of Sydney, who peacefully left us at home on October 11, 2024. Born in Sydney, NS, he was the beloved son of the late Maurice and Irene Leon. Gordon dedicated his life to serving his community, working as a bartender at The Peridot Tavern, Manager of the Shingle Inn, and as a taxi driver for Plaza Taxi. His passion for music and community shone brightly as the Choir Director at Holy Rosary Church, where his kindness and infectious laughter brought joy to many. He is survived by his loving siblings; Brian (Jane) Leon, Wanda Thomas, Joyce (Gorden) Collinet, Kevin (Cindy) Leon, Darryl Leon, Karen (Ed) Desermo, Kenny (Debbie) Leon and Shawna (Ray) MacDougall, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephew. Gordon cherished his time with his nieces and nephews, sharing his witty humor while watching cartoons. Known affectionately as “the old man”, he had a special bond with Tamara, Travis, Abby, Debbie, and Jenna, who brought out his playful side. An outdoor enthusiast, Gordon loved sitting by the water, skipping rocks, and telling funny stories. He enjoyed spending quiet moments in the lounge, solving puzzles, reading, and tackling crossword puzzles. Gordon’s spirit and laughter will be missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 16, 4 - 6 pm. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, October. 17, 11:00 am at Holy Rosary Parish, Fr. Doug Murphy officiating.
