Obituary of Paula Joanne Flemming

"Paula “Joanne” Flemming, 74 of Halifax passed away September 27th, 2024 at Hospice Halifax. Born in Halifax, Joanne moved to Bear Cove at age 16 to live with her grandparents Bertha and Cyril Johnson. There, she met Bill at the St. Peter’s Parish Fair, and they married two years later. Joanne spent most of her career working for the Royal Bank in Spryfield, where she met and made many friends including lifelong friends Louise Blades and Lila Abraham- together they became the “3 Mouthkateers”. Joanne had the special ability to turn friends into family with ease. She had a special relationship with Colleen McAvoy (her sister-in-law) who she loved to travel and shop with, and they had many wonderful adventures that she cherished. She is survived by her daughter Paula of Spryfield, son Matthew (Emily Paull) of Portuguese Cove, sisters Donna (Don Pyke) of Beaverbank, and Cindy Hirtle of New Glasgow. Grandchildren Katie Winters (Ben Kelly), Abbie Winters, Sam Flemming and Andi Flemming. Honorary grandchildren Brayden and Colby Giles and Abby and Brooke Paull. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years Bill, brothers Tony, Mark, and Danny, sister Heather and grandson Ben. Joanne was known to be a kind and generous friend and co-worker. Her laughter and light were a gift to us all. She was always willing to offer sage advice and lend a hand to anyone in need. Her services will be held in Stella Maris Church in Spryfield, October 9, 2024 at 11:00am, followed by a celebration of life in the Purcell’s Cove Social Club (16 Shipside Lane) from 12:30pm-3:00pm at her request. Private internment in the evening. Special thanks to Halifax Hospice who not only cared for Joanne in her final days but her entire family. Their kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
