Surrette (Edgar) Jean Catherine, RN – 93 It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jean (Edgar) Surrette. Born in Halifax January 29, 1924 daughter of the late John Reid & Bertha (Long) Edgar. Jean was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by three brothers and five sisters. She was also predeceased by her husband, James J; son, Christopher; and daughter, Mary Jane. She is survived by sons, David (Lee), Mark (Angela); grandchildren Jennifer & Emily and Allison & Caroline, as well as a very dear friend, Cathie Daniels. Educated in Halifax, Jean graduated from St. Patrick’s High School, attended the Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing and continued her studies at Mount St. Vincent University. A lifelong caregiver, Jean drew great pleasure in looking after others. From her early days of nursing, to her time at the Halifax schoolboard – she watched over, guided and helped many during her lifetime. Jean was past president of the Halifax Infirmary Alumnae, founding member of the Mayflower Ladies Curling Club, past president of the St. Elizabeth’s Guild, an active member of the CF Society and a member of RNSYS. Jean was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. A woman of great strength and independence who faced adversity with courage and deep faith until the very end. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the outstanding team at Drummond Hall 3rd floor, Parkland at Clayton Park, who cared for Jean lovingly during these past few months. Cremation has taken place under the direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Bedford (902) 835-4212. No visitation by request. Burial will take place at a later date. Funeral service will be held Thursday, December 7 at 11:30am in St. Agnes Parish, 6903 Mumford Rd, Halifax. Reception to follow in the church hall.
