Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William Edward Forbes, 85, passed away peacefully at home on April 8, 2024. Born in Halifax, NS, William (Bill) was the son of the late William Anthony and Edna Forbes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Barbara (Ring); and his four children, Melinda (Darrold) Ladouceur, William “Brother” (Susan), Kenneth (Elizabeth) and Kimberley (Steve) Hiltz; and also, his cat, Missy who never left his side. Bill is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Jeannie Joseph, Beverley LaPierre, Sharon (Jimmie) Demont, Wayne, Brian (Debbie), Marlene (Steve) Tizard; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the proud grandfather of, Brittany (Graham) Crawford, William, Alexis, Blake, Maxwell and Brennan; and great-grandfather of William and Owen.
He was predeceased by his brother, Gary.
Bill had several jobs throughout his working career, but the two that he was most proud of were that of a trolley operator (he drove the very last trolley into the station on January 1, 1970) and head gardener at the Public Gardens. Bill loved to work with his hands, and you could often find him in his beloved “workshop” tinkering around building wood furniture or fixing things – there was nothing that he could not fix! Bill was an exceptionally good baseball player in his younger years and loved watching it on TV. He also loved hockey and the Pittsburgh Penguins have lost one of their biggest fans.
Thank you to Homecare and to the VON, specifically nurse Nicole, who took great care of Bill at home and also a special thank you to Dr. Min Lee.
A funeral service will be held Friday, April 12, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Agnes Church, 6903 Mumford Road, Halifax, NS with Archbishop Martin Currie officiating, reception to follow in the auditorium.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and Diabetes Canada.
