Nancy Lotherington

Obituary of Nancy Elizabeth Lotherington

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Nancy Lotherington on March 7, 2024, at the MacGillivray Guest Home. Nancy Elizabeth Lotherington (MacNeil) was a fierce hockey mom and loving wife who built a life around her husband and her two boys, Stephen and Michael. She worked as a Victims’ Services Counsellor with the RCMP and the Women’s Emergency Shelter, Transition House. Nancy was a gifted artist who expressed her talent through drawing and painting, and she shared her mother’s talent as an accomplished seamstress – sewing and designing beautiful clothes for herself, friends and clients and then later as a costume designer for local cultural and athletic events, including the Canada Winter Games in 1987. Nancy loved to garden and later in life she took to the water as an avid kayaker. Tulips were her favourite flowers, and she loved to watch the crocuses come up in the spring. She spent countless hours researching her family’s Scottish roots and compiled many records retelling their stories. When blessed with 4 grandchildren, John, Nicholas, Hayden and Emma, Nancy shared their stories by making beautiful scrapbooks to celebrate their legacy. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, John and Frances MacNeil, and husband Sid. She leaves behind her sons, Stephen and Michael (Krishna); grandchildren, Nicholas and Hayden (Stephen’s children) and John and Emma (Michael’s children); sisters Maureen, Janet and Mary, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to make a special mention and thank you to the staff at MacGillivray’s Guest Home who took such good care of Nancy in her final years. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. A Celebration of Life will be held at the funeral home on June 15, 2024, at 2 pm, Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Words of condolence may be made to the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com.
