Michael Anthony Taylor, 53
Glace Bay, N.S.
With broken hearts and profound sorrow, the family of Michael Anthony Taylor announce the passing of a cherished father, son, brother, and uncle on January 25, 2024, at the age of 53.
Michael was the third youngest of 11 siblings born to the late Idris and Catherine Taylor. Having a large family, birthdays, holidays and anniversaries at Mom and Dad’s house were busy, but we always took the time to sit around the kitchen table and catch up on the news of the day and share a few stories and some laughter. Michael’s presence was always felt, with his infectious laugh and ear-to-ear smile that lit up the room. In more recent years, Michael’s home was the gathering place to celebrate milestones and to visit our Mom. Michael was a devoted son who cared for our Mom and Dad in their later years, in the house he built for them.
To know Michael was to love him. He was caring, selfless, outgoing, friendly, and hard-working. Like his father, Michael was always willing to lend a hand or tackle a project when you needed him, a quality that is rare. Michael was proud to be a Dad and was immensely proud of his son’s many accomplishments.
He was a long-time employee of Canada Post. Michael had many lifelong friends, who knew him as “Hip.” He enjoyed the time he spent with them, playing softball, fishing, and hunting. He loved Cape Breton summers and the time he spent at the bungalow in Loch Lomond. Michael also enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting.
Michael will forever be missed by his son, Chad; Mother, Catherine; siblings, Kay (Craig), Sharon, John (Claudette), Jimmy (Marie), Gloria (Mike), Neil, Nancy (Frank), Susan, Brian, and Sandra (Jonathan); and many nieces and nephews. Michael is also survived by his partner, Diane Buchanan, and her children, Bethany, and Cale.
Michael was predeceased by his father, Idris; brother-in-law, Billy; niece, Tammy; and nephew, John Paul.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., with a Celebration of Life to follow on Friday, February 2, 2024, all in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. A reception will be held at Flavor (Top Shelf) in the Glace Bay Miners Forum, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. following the service.
