Hello. My deep condolences to everyone who loved Doug. I met him a little over a year ago when I moved into my new building in downtown Sydney. Doug lived in the apartment across from mine. I was without telephone, TV, and internet on that long weekend, and Doug kindly let me borrow his cell several times until the cable company arrived on Monday. I'd sometimes give Doug cooked food, e.g., spaghetti & meatballs. Doug ended up at the Regional after I called the police non-emergency number to ask them to do a wellness check on him (after I got no answer at his door throughout that day.) What I couldn't hear (but the police and paramedics could) was Doug moaning because he'd fallen on the floor. May my sweet neighbour Doug rest peacefully.

Dougie was my bus driver back in the 70's, he would drive us to MacLennan Jr High and Riverview. He was so kind and would always wait for us when we would be late. In more recent years I would come see him on his morning walk in Sydney River and we would always stop and chat about about his bus driving days. Sincere condolences to the family.

Very sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. I have many great memories of playing with the boys at the family home, ice hockey games on the pond until my toes were frostbitten, guitar music and songs like “there was a man from Chinaland”, being around the horse and just having good play times. I would see and have conversation with Doug while walking the dogs when we lived on Woodlawn Dr. God bless you all.

My sincere condolences on the loss of your father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. I lived next door to Doug on Third St. in the Heather Trailer Park. I just wish all neighbor's were like him, what a beautiful world it would be if we did. Doug looked after me as i was one of his own. My most precious memory of him was when my brother passed and he came over with a cd of his with a couple songs on it, well to say i cried is an understatement. Another time i could here a noise out on my step after a snow storm, i look out and who is there but Doug shoveling my doorway out so i could get out in case of an emergency, another time he brought me over fish, which i do not like or eat, but he told me how to cook it and i did and i ate it. Many a happy memories of Doug over the 10 years that he was my neighbor. RIP Doug till we meet again.
