Please share a memory of Evelyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Evelyn Helen Lukan (nee Richlark) passed away on December 4, 2023, at her home in Halifax in her 85th year.
Loving mother of John (Janaya) and Michael (Laura) Lukan. Very proud grandmother of Alyska (Scott), Megan (Nadim), Kaili (Nakisa), Nicolas, Marcus, James, Andreas, Makoa, Kailo, and Adia and great grandmother of Ailidh and Fiadh. Dear sister of Mildred Heinrich (Ron).
She was predeceased by her parents Peter and Katherine (Nazar) Richlark, sisters Alice Syrota and Mary Shedden and brothers John, Wally and Father Eugene Richlark.
Ev was born in Vancouver, grew up in Saskatoon, and after graduating pursued a nursing career with sojourns in Yellowknife and Antigonish before settling in Halifax in 1966. Ev worked as a nurse at the Halifax Infirmary retiring in 1995 as Director of Nursing. Her first retirement did not last long as she soon accepted the Director of Nursing position at the King Khalid National Guard Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Ev was well respected by Saudi doctors having earned numerous accolades while in the Kingdom.
She returned to Canada after 5 years and numerous adventures throughout the Middle East and Africa. Once home in Canada, Ev quickly reconnected with her many friends and, as always, continued to add wonderful new relationships. If Ev was anything she was a social being and she cherished all those around her. She very much enjoyed living in her condo at Summer Gardens and the many new friends she made while living there. We were always cheered to hear about her many social events around Halifax and the Maritimes and would like to thank all those who peeked in on Mom frequently over the last few years.
The family extends thanks for the ongoing care Ev received from Dr Nancy Turner, Dr Katharina Kieser Dr Simon Jackson and Dr Volodko Bakowsky
We are extremely grateful for the continued outpouring of support and shared memories since Mom’s passing. One of our favourites so far, from a friend growing up, was “Darn... she was cool before there was cool.”
Many of Ev’s friends know she enjoyed a good party and was fond of stories. John and Mike plan to share some of their more memorable stories during her life celebration. Anyone interested may also share their thoughts, fond memories or stories about Ev at the celebration or on evelyn-lukan.forevermissed.com.
A celebration of Life for Ev will be held at Ashburn Golf Club on Wednesday, December 13 from 2 pm till 4pm. (3250 Joseph Howe Drive, Halifax, NS)
