Obituary of Joseph Ronald ‘Ron’ Duggan

Duggan, Joseph Ronald (Ron), age 84 of Prospect Village, passed away January 31, 2018 at the Halifax Infirmary. Ron (known by some as Joe) worked for various companies including Motor Products Corp. in Windsor, ON; Nova Scotia Hospital; City Home; Department of Highways (mechanical branch) until joining the Halifax Police Department in 1952. Ron served with the Department for 32 years retiring from the Detective office in 1989. After retirement Ron returned to fishing and pursued his love and enjoyment of the outdoors and the ocean for the next 24 years. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed many a hunting and fishing trip to Newfoundland. Ron had a great sense of humor and was a great story teller, he kept you on your toes wondering if he was pulling your leg. His family meant the world to him and his grandchildren will confirm that “Grampie knew everything”. His grandsons were usually greeted with Hi big guy and the granddaughters were all his sweetie pies. Ron is survived by his wife and best friend, Joan (LeBlanc); sons, David (Cathy) and John (Sharon); daughters, Theresa and Lori (Carla); grandsons, Luke (Kelly) and Liam; granddaughters, Melissa (Jake) Wentzell, Caitlin, Ashley, Marina, and Brittany Duggan; great-grandsons, Perin Wentzell and Peter Duggan; great-granddaughters, Ada Wentzell and Rosalie Duggan. He is also survived by brothers, Edward (Lorraine), Michael (Frances), Richard (Anita), Joseph (Val); and sister, Jean Hardiman. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Frances Duggan; and his son Peter. The family would like to extend thanks to the doctors and staff of 7.3 at the Halifax Infirmary for their care. Also, a special thank you to the doctors and nurses of the Heart Function Clinic and Marsha Wood of the Renal Clinic who played an important role in Ron’s healthcare the last several years. Cremation has taken place and Father Sebastian Szewczyk, SDS will celebrate Ron’s life with a mass on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 11:00 am in St. Joseph’s Church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, 3709 Prospect Road, Shad Bay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Foundation, Kidney Foundation, or a charity of choice.
