To Joan and all of Joe’s family, Johanne and I send our deepest sympathy. Joe was a good friend and respected co-worker, willing to give guidance to us less experienced members of CID. He also was quick to display that keen sense of humour. I have fond memories of a day in his boat, bobbing among the swells of the Atlantic, when I had my one and only sighting of a sunfish and a leather back. Great memories of a great man. May your memories of him guide you in days to come.

To Joe Duggan’s Family; My sincere condolences on your loss. I haven’t seen Joe since he was a student of mine in Public Relations, a course he took while he was a detective with the Halifax Police Department. He was one of my favourite students, always keeping us entertained with stories during our coffee break. I remember he was “on call” the night exams were written and he was called away, but came back and finished his exam, and passed, of course. My husband remembers him sitting at our kitchen table, finishing that exam paper. He made a lasting impression on us both. With good thoughts but sincere sympathy, Mary Barker

George & I were very saddened to hear of the passing of Ronnie. I personally knew Ronnie all my life as I also grew up in Prospect and he and George became friends from the lobster fishery. We always enjoyed our visits to Ronnie & Joan’s home, where we felt so welcomed by them. Our very deepest condolences to Joan, sons, daughters, brothers and sister. His handsome face will be missed. I fondly remember Ron from his days working at the City Home and HPD. As a young teenager I wanted to attend a dance at the Olympic Gardens to hear The Meteors. Ron was security at the door and advised me to go home as I was too young to be there and he didn’t want to have to tell Dad . We ran into each other over the years and I enjoyed our short chats. Joan & the entire Duggan family; Pam & I wish to express our sincere condolences. ” Joe ” was such a mentor to me and other young officers, who were teamed up with him in the CID office. He was a patient and kind gentleman who was respected by all members. I will cherish the visits I made to his home and the memories of the cases we worked on. I tagged him years back as ” The Old Man and the Sea ” as he loved the ocean and lived for his days on the Lobster boat. Many members will recall his Pre – Christmas rounds to various detachments delivering delicious LOBSTER from Prospect Bay . Rest well my friend Michael P
