Mrs. Snehlata (Bitto) Chaturvedi
Born in: India.
Born: October 10, 1949
Passed on: Tuesday June 27th, 2023.
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Mrs. Snehlata (Bitto) Chaturvedi at Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Bitto was born in Jhansi, India on October 10, 1949.
She completed her Bachelor of Science with a major in Botany and a Masters in Sociology from the University of Lucknow. Bitto was a dedicated educationalist who taught grade two initially in India and subsequently upon moving to Glace Bay was a guest lecturer at Cape Breton University.
Bitto first came to Glace Bay, Nova Scotia in 1983, following her marriage to Dr. Prabhat Kumar Chaturvedi (MD, FRCS, FACS) on January 16, 1982.
Bitto embraced her new community and quickly became known as a gracious and welcoming hostess hosting memorable gatherings with a growing community of friends. She always welcomed everyone with open arms and her home was a haven for many close-knit friends and their families. Bitto loved cooking, was a voracious reader and was an avid walker.
Bitto led a devout Hindu life including a commitment to daily prayer and joyous celebration of major Hindu festivals. Cherished for her inclusive, engaging and unassuming manner, Bitto will be fondly remembered by many friends who were invited to participate in these festivities.
Bitto’s greatest pride and joy were her two children Neha and Nitin.
Bitto’s generosity and genuine care for people and community was evident in her recent interests including supporting new immigrants and international students to settle in Canada. Her interest, warmth and wisdom assisted many students as they integrated into their new lives.
Bitto is survived by her daughter, Neha (soon to be son-in-law Edward Baxter); and son, Nitin, both at home; her brother Padmakar Chaturvedi and many nieces and nephews around the world.
Bitto was predeceased by her husband Dr. P.K. Chaturvedi, parents Shyamsunder Chaturvedi and Chandravati Chaturvedi, sisters Hemlata Chaturvedi and Premlata Chaturvedi and brothers Kamlakar Chaturvedi, Sudhakar Chaturvedi and Prabhakar Chaturvedi.
