Dear Liz Anne and families: On behalf of the family of Tom and Marge Haley, I offer our sincerest condolences to you at this very sad time. Your Dad was such a sweet man and we all have special memories of his kindness and humor. Mine include being at your house with you, hearing his wonderful laugh as he joked around with your Mom, always making me feel so at home. Along with Elizabeth's church story about going to Mass with Ma after Da died, my special memory is from farther back. Always at Sunday morning Mass, I wondered why your Dad sat on the left side of the church and your darling Mom sat on the right side. When I asked Da, he explained that it was an old tradition and it was nice that they kept it up. As a younger kid, I remember thinking it was a bit odd until one Sunday morning, I watched them meet after Mass and walk home together, talking and laughing all the way. What I saw was pure joy and remember thinking, there is a match made in heaven. It was nice growing up in our neighborhood, our two families so similar- proud to be kids of coal miners, with just enough comforts and so much love. I once heard Da say that Ned Kelly was one of the finest men he ever knew. Your family was so blessed to have had your Dad with you for so many years, truly a gift and Blessing from God. I have enrolled both your Dad and Mom in Masses and we are praying for you during this very sorrowful time. God bless you. Eileen Haley-Applin and Ann, Allan, Michael, Patricia and Diane

Sending along my sincerest condolences to Ned's family and friends. He, along with some of his brothers, worked in the coal mines with my dad Tom Haley. As well, some of my sibling went to school with some of his kids. I remember going to Mass at St. John's with Ma after Da passed and of course everyone seem to have their favorite seat which would put us near where Ned would sit. He would always tell us a story that would have us in stitches or he'd be picking on someone around him...all in fun. RIP Mr. Kelly. Elizabeth Noel (one of the Haley girls from 8th Street)

My sincere condolences to Ned's family on their great loss. A chat with Ned was guaranteed to be entertaining! Dad often talks of the lengths Ned would go to to make sure they were able to complete whatever task they had at hand - building a new house, renos, whatever. Nothing stopped them. The Kelly brothers made quite the construction team. Rest In Peace Uncle Ned.

Ned will be forever missed on Cooling Street. He was a great neighbour and grand-uncle. Some of my favourite memories growing up were going over to Uncle Ned’s to watch boxing matches, which were usually on way past my bedtime.
