Obituary of Alexander Stewart Brown

BROWN, Alexander Stewart, 87, of Halifax, Nova Scotia passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023. Stewart was the son of M. Ellen (Murray) Brown and Alexander A. Brown. Born on Cape Breton Island and received his early education there. Stewart attended Waterloo Lutheran University, and Dalhousie University where he received a master’s degree in social work. He was Nova Scotia’s first Director of Day Care Services for Children and Nova Scotia’s first Director of Home Care. He also was Co-director of Adoption Services for the maritime provinces. Stewart was an accomplished pianist and played on C & CB Rodeo for a half hour at the age of eleven years. His music talent and direction came from his mother and grandmother at home. He was predeceased by his brother, George H.; his sisters E. June (George Caldwell), M. Elaine (Hugh) Taylor, and Devena (Marve) Whalen. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Nancy Brown, Guelph ON. At his request he will be cremated and there will be no service. His burial is confidential.
