I have lived in the same condo building as Stewart for 12 years. It breaks my heart to hear of his passing. He literally was my favorite person ever in our building. He always had such a great spirit. Super friendly, and absolutely hilarious. His little shuffle he used to do when he was walking from the elevator to the mail boxes always made me giggle. I always remember him graciously sharing his menthol cigarettes lol. He also got a lot of joy from meeting dogs and my now three year old daughter. I hope they have good mental’s up in heaven waiting for you. You made a significant mark in my life just with our small but meaningful interactions.

There are so many memories over almost 20-years.There is one memory that stands out which is the story Stewart told us about his cat.Stewart would call home from work and the cat would knock the receiver off the phone to hear Stewart talk and Stewart could hear the cat at the receiver, such a great story. Thanks for all the great memories Stewart I will never forget your friendship, Ron Wheaton

I took a trip to Guelph with Stewart and Devena when I was about 10 ( I'm 70 now.) We drove up in his yellow convertible that contained an air conditioner which at the time was bucket-like contraption filled with ice chunks that had air from the vents blowing through it.
He loved his cars and kept them immaculate just like my dad did and just like I have always done because of their influence on me. I often flash back to memories of Stewart and George “babysitting” us on Alexander Street while mom and dad went out bowling or dancing. They were,” simply the best.”
I remember Stewart playing the piano at George and June Caldwell’s on Clyde Avenue, Sydney Mines. You name the tune and he’d play it. Totally by a combination of ears like magic and born to it skill. I do NOT remember ever seeing a song sheet.
He got to play one of Victor Borge’s pianos that was in a Halifax music shop ( I forget its name.) Stewart was always smiling and smoking and being the spit of his mom and dad in various ways...h=just a delight to be around and what a memory he had...wow...just ask Stewart was what we did when we had,"I wonder..." moments.
This is another family icon down for us all. I can only imagine the magnificent game of Auction 120 they’ll all get together to play “up there.” We now have lots of candidates to make the triangle sandwiches and tea. The absolute truth is…there will definitely be more than one ACE OF HEARTS!

We are so very sad to learn of Stewart’s passing. It was always very entertaining to drop in for a visit when we were in Halifax. Many laughs shared. And he had such a sharp memory of people from Sydney Mines ( and what type of car they drove). We will miss our visits for sure. Rest in peace!
