Please share a memory of Allen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
ALLEN (Al) BENOIT November 21, 1948 – March 24, 2018 Allen walked peacefully into the Light on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the age of 69. Beloved brother of Flora and cherished uncle of Michael. He was predeceased by his mother, Marjorie and father, Gerard. He will be greatly missed by his sister and nephew, cousins and friends. Allen will be remembered for his loving and gentle nature, his kindness and openness to others, his generosity and his undaunting courage. His journey over the 18 years since his stroke was a difficult one, filled with losses and diminishing capacities. He braved these challenges with acceptance, grace and dignity, without complaint. He loved life and people and had a special bond with the children who touched his life at Oakwood Terrace, especially Thomas, Vitali and Angus. Allen showed us that the spirit of Love can shine through all our physical and mental limitations. He was an inspiration to us all. Allen’s absence will be felt deeply by his friends at Oakwood, where he brought sunshine to his fellow residents, their family members, and staff. Although he had difficulty speaking, Allen communicated in so many other ways, always ready to greet people with a smile, a handshake, a high-five, an A-okay, a thumbs-up… or a kiss on the hand for his special friends. He was well known for his love of kitkat and coffee crisp bars, which he shared with, and received from friends. An avid sports buff, he was a faithful Maple Leafs fan. Allen loved animals and enjoyed the dogs, kittens and birds that came to visit, always ready with a treat for them. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers who treated Allen with loving care, especially Leona. We will be forever grateful for the gift of Anne and Jeannine who provided Allen with friendship, love and compassion. Interment to take place at a later date. Donations in Allen’s memory to the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program, or to the charity of your choice, would be appreciated.
