Obituary of Wayne Foster Currie

CURRIE, Wayne Foster, 83 of Bedford, NS. Passed away unexpectedly on January 12th, 2023, at home, Bedford NS. Born in Halifax, NS, he was the son of Carl & Hilda (Romans) Currie. He attended Queen Elizabeth High School and began his retail career immediately at Simpson’s store in Halifax. Over years of dedicated, hard work, Wayne worked his way within the company, starting in the stock room to that of assistant manager/manager of the tobacco and candy departments. In the later years he served Simpson’s as General Manager at the MicMac Store, prior to his first retirement. He then started his own company, Cosmetics Unlimited in 1979, representing Bonne Bell Cosmetics until his retirement in 2001. Wayne was a highly regarded and respected member of Simpson’s team where he enjoyed long friendships and associations. It was in those early years, while working at the store that he met his wife, of 62 years, Catherine (“Sam”) Gallagher, whom he wed February 25, 1960. As well as his wife, Catherine, Wayne is survived by his two sons, Wayne Jr., and grandson Tyler of Bedford, and Shawn (Cathy Lynn) of Oviedo, Florida. He is also survived by his brothers, Eric (Jean), and Roy of Bedford; sister-in-law, Barbara (Carl), and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Wayne was predeceased by his sister, Viola; and brothers, Carl and David. Wayne was known for his kindness and gently nature with colleagues, friends, neighbours, and family. His favourite pastime was supporting his grandson, Tyler at the ballfield and hockey rink. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his wife Cathy and all the family. Visitation will be held on Thursday 19 January 2023 at 4:00pm to 6:00pm in T.J Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Halifax, NS.
