Bob Hartling... interesting story.. Bob and Betty Hartling were our neighbours in our current home for 20 years. She and Shelly McHugh had worked together at the IWK Hospital when we moved here in 1999. When we first moved in, Bob walked his dog Amber 6-8 times a day around the neighbourhood for years. One day, Bob started his mid-afternoon walk a little late. When a school bus driver approached Bob, he pulled over to ask if if he was 'off schedule' as he had spotted Bob at the same spot at the same time every day! Bob replied, "No, I'm late." :) Best Bob story ever? (and maybe told at our son Colin McHugh & Leslie Angela 's recent wedding? :) ) Bob came over one day around noon to share with me that he hoped he didn't scare our son earlier that day. (?????) Of course, I bit as Colin had had a sleep-over that previous night. "Yes," said Bob, "I noticed the boys climbing back in a lower window in your house at 5am. So, I asked them if they needed some help.". When I asked Colin about this later that day, he was not amused! :)

Sorry to hear and read this. I always wondered where he moved to. I lived in Bedford for a while and was a member of the Bedford Volunteer Fire Dept. I am now in Lower Sackville. We used to live next door to you on Romans Ave before we moved to Bedford. He certainly looked like his father. My condolences go out to the family. May he rest in peace. Condolences to you Patsy. Oh My Bob, where do I begin…. Your smile would light up a dark room within a second, you were such a Gentle Kind Compassionate Man, and I had the pleasure of working most evenings with you and tucking you into bed,I’ll always remember our chats & laughs, you made my bad days better, you taught me so much in our months together, your wise words, great advice but most of all the best hugs, I hope heaven is treating you well Bob and you’re enjoying your favourite coke and chips, I’ll never forget you and may you rest in peace, you will always have a place in my heart❤️

Patsy, Elizabeth and family, I offer my heartfelt condolences to you all. My heart is very sad. Patsy, my best friend, was my Maid of Honour and Bobby was an Usher at my wedding. Bobby was the most handsome guy at Saint Agnes School and he always wanted to drive my bike home from school. He would say,” I’ll give you a dime”, I would say, “sure”, a dime was a lot back then, it got you a large bag of candy or two bags of chips.
All my love and prayers. Sharon (Horne) Hartnett

Rob, Deanna and family, my deep and most sincere condolences to you during this time. I had the pleasure of meeting Bob and sharing his company as I am a friend of his son Rob. He was charming, funny , pleasant and enjoyable. He was highly regarded and well loved by his grandchildren and those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Rest easy Bob, you raised a fine young man and your work is complete. Soar through heavens skies on the wings you have earned. Thinking of you all with love.

Don and I are so sad to read of Bob’s passing. We want to express our sincerest condolences to the children and grandchildren of Bob. We are thinking of you, Dawn, Rob and Patricia and of all Bob’s dear grandchildren.
The Hartlings were neighbours of ours for many years. Everyone in the neighborhood was very impressed with Bob’s early shovelling skills in the winter and his endless mowing of his lawn in the summer. No one could compete with his keenness.
His love of his dog, Amber, was obvious on their daily walks. Amber was always in good hands.
Bob loved his children and grandchildren and loved to bend our ears with his endless proud stories about them.
A difficult time for family…here’s to a glass of coke and a bowl of BBQ chips in Bob’s honour… RIP Bob.
Sylvia and Don Ritcey
