Dave taught me how to fly at the Cape Breton Flying School at Sydney airport back in the early 1980’s. I remember his instructional technique as incredible, he had a way of making the difficult so easy to understand and putting a person at ease and fill them with confidence. I always thought “If I were an Instructor, I’d like to be like Dave”. Sadly I lost track of Dave and often wondered what became of him as deep down inside myself I was always grateful to him, but lost track of him over the years and stumbled across his obituary by chance on the Cape Breton Post while looking for another friend’s obituary. I offer my condolences to his family and will say a prayer tonight that Dave is flying “On Eagles Wings” with God’sAngels on High! God Bless Dave Lind!

Dear Derreck and family,
It is with a heavy heart that I write these words of condolences to you and your family. As you know David and I have shared our friendship and love for 40 years and words cannot really express how deeply saddened that I and my son Josh are to have lost such a wonderful person from all of our lives. David was a kind soul, a great singer and storyteller who always enjoyed the company of family and friends. We are so sorry for your loss, our loss. We will miss him very much, but will always keep Dave in our hearts and memories.
Love, Kim and Josh Jenkins

My condolences to all, I met Dave (Emrys) through the SCA, and was one of the people that I grew to love and respect in that organization. I always considered him both a friend and mentor and will miss him greatly.

My sincere condolences to Dave's family. I met Dave in 1978 when he was an instructor (and I his student) at Glider Training in Greenwood. He was such a nice person and introduced me to playing guitar. Gone far, far too young. Susan Burris

I am so sorry to hear of Dave's passing. My thoughts are with your family and friends. I am saddened to see this as I opened my email. I worked with Dave here at Staples, never met in person since I am in Colorado. He was always a pleasure to talk with over the phone though if either of us had a question about an order. Hearing about him being a pirate I thought was so cool. I am glad I had to pleasure to work with him.

With greatest condolences for Derreck and family we light this candle for Dave ! Several years back Dave, myself and 2 other Canadians were selected to join the Colorado furniture team. During training we learned Dave was Pirate, we could occasionally hear his ARRR through the walls. He sent us a picture of himself in pirate attire, and of course we sent it off to all of our co-workers in the US ! Thinking of Dave always comes with an ARRR and makes me smile. Rest in peace Dave, you will be missed ! Delayne

Sorry for your loss Dereck and family.
Dave was a true friend of mine for 18 years, he was always supportive as we played our game together online, his wicked sense of humour made us both laugh. I wish I had been able to meet him in person and give him a hug that we all need at times. as he was obviously a friend to all that knew him and greatly respected.
He will always remain firmly in my heart forever.
RIP lovely man

I am so sorry for your families loss. I had the privilege of knowing and working with Dave just under 10 years. While we never met face to face, I am in Denver, CO USA, I always found Dave to be friendly, positive and upbeat. One of my favorite times was learning about Dave’s hobby of being a pirate! He will be missed and I wish all the best for Dave’s family.

Dave was my first flying instructor when , on a bit of a lark, I decided to give it a try when I taught music at Breton Education Centre and was seeking a new adventure. At that time we first met at the Cape Breton Flying School, the oldest in Canada. Dave was a consummate pilot and a gifted teacher , very gentle, articulate, with a wonderful sense of humour. I fully remember and treasure the hours we spent together. Because of Dave I went on to obtain my pilot’s license and enjoyed the freedom of breaking the burly bonds of earth for many years. David is very fondly remembered by this old pilot/musician. May the countenance of light shine upon David, his family and friends, grant them peace. God bless.

As one of the cousins, I have lasting memories as a child, of visiting Uncle Raymond and Aunt Jean, Barbara and Davey in Glace Bay with our Mom and Dad. I remember his supportive presence when our father, his Uncle Francis, passed away in December 2004. We will always remember Davey as being very kind and pleasant toward others. His memory will live on in our hearts. Sincerest condolences to the family and special friends. From the Lind and Carter families.

Dave will be missed by all that have known him over time. Any time spent with Dave was a good and memorable occasion. An amazing mentor, Dave willingly shared all of his vast knowledge and subject joys, (military, flying, aircraft, history, music, pirates and SCA, are just a few). Like so many others, the memories I have of Dave make me smile.
My condolences to his Sisters, Rilla, Barbara and his nephew, Derreck and all the Family.

Shocked and saddened to hear of Dave's passing.
Dave and I were great friends and comrades.
Dave was a ‘renaissance’ man in the true sense of the word combining his love of music, martial and fine arts. He freely shared and taught without the expectation of anything in return.
I will miss his gregarious, mischievous and fun-loving nature.

Very saddened to hear of the passing of friend & fellow Pirate Dave Lind over the Christmas holiday.
Such a great soul taken too soon by nasty Diabetes.
Dave would frequent the Pirate Festivals & would join us in many a song during St. Patrick's Day in the "Pirate's Lair".
I will miss his friendship, humour & wisdom.
Godspeed Dave!
