Irene Snow Donkin It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of our mother and grandmother Irene Snow, age 83, at the Glace Bay General Hospital, on December 21, 2022. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, she was the daughter of the late James and Edith Brabazon. Irene came to Canada at the age of 21 and here she found the love of her life, Jim Snow. They were always together and were best friends until Jim’s death in 2021. Irene worked as a secretary at several places, the last being at the Glace Bay Heavy Water Plant. At the age of 17, she joined the Women’s Royal Navy Reserve and this is how she met her soul mate, as he was a member of the Canadian Navy. She was a member of the Queen Victoria Rebecca Lodge and the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 5, Donkin, she was an officer with the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets, and a leader with Girl Guides. She enjoyed working in her garden. Irene was an avid knitter and seamstress, making many fishermen knit sweaters for Island Craft Store in Sydney. Irene is survived by her son, Breton (Ann) Snow; daughters, Michele (Derek) Morford, and Paula (Paul) McIntyre; her nine loving grandchildren, Jenn, Dan, Kyle, Jansen, Kristy, Ryan, Alex, Brody, and Tanner; 8 precious great grandchildren, Nathan, Arianna, Jayden, Dante, Avery, Brooklynn, Lyla, and Zoey. Irene is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Art (Lorraine) Snow and Ken Snow; sister-in-law, Ellen MacLeod, many nieces, and nephews; as well as long time childhood friend, Joan Bothwell, across the sea, no distance could break their bond. Besides her parents, Jim and Edith Brabazon, she was predeceased by her love of her life, Jim Snow, daughter in infancy; sister Betty Jones, parents-in-law, Jim and Annie Snow, sister-in-law, Johnna Snow, brothers-in-law Charles MacLeod and Sheldon Snow.
