Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, she was the daughter of the late James and Edith Brabazon. Irene came to Canada at the age of 21 and here she found the love of her life, Jim Snow. They were always together and were best friends until Jim’s death in 2021. Irene worked as a secretary at several places, the last being at the Glace Bay Heavy Water Plant. At the age of 17, she joined the Women’s Royal Navy Reserve and this is how she met her soul mate, as he was a member of the Canadian Navy. She was a member of the Queen Victoria Rebecca Lodge and the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 5, Donkin, she was an officer with the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets, and a leader with Girl Guides. She enjoyed working in her garden. Irene was an avid knitter and seamstress, making many fishermen knit sweaters for Island Craft Store in Sydney.
