I was shocked to hear of Paul's passing. I worked with Paul in Thompson, Manitoba when I transferred to Thompson Rural Detachment in 1987. Never a dull moment with Paul. Move ahead several years and we worked again in Steinbach in 1996. I was Paul's supervisor. I will never forget the time Paul REALLY wanted to win tickets for a concert in Winnipeg. In those days we had cell phones in the police vehicles. Unbeknown to us, Paul made, let's say, several calls and I remember hearing his name being announced as the winner over the radio station. He did enjoy the concert but had some explaining to do, given the fact that in those days cell calls were expensive! His reaction was a smile and a laugh. When he retired and left Steinbach, Paul made it all the way to Richer, Manitoba the first day ! ( 25 minutes east of Steinbach ). That was Paul ! Stopping to say goodbye to some friends and maybe have a glass of cheer with them !
Our condolences to the family and may he Rest In Peace !

Diane, Linda & family,
I was shocked to read of Paul's passing. Our families go back quite a ways and there are many fond memories. Paul was a character, always ready to share some fun and laughter. There needs to be more of that in this world.
He will be missed by many.
My thoughts are with you all.

I worked with Paul in Thompon, Manitoba. We were co-workers & friends. We lost site of each other for over 20 years, but were fortunate enough to get back in contact about 2 years ago. I visited Paul at his home in Chester Basin in the Fall of 2021. We had the best of times, and it felt as if we had never lost touch. He sure was the same ole great guy from Thompson. Ever since that visite, we were having weekly online video chats & cribbage games. And anybody that knows Paul well will understand that I haven't won too many of those games in the last year. Nevertheless, I will surely miss those cherished moments and Paul, I will miss you my friend, André Desveaux.

I worked with Paul "The King" as we called him in Steinbach Manitoba. Paul's priority in his work and personal lives was always the people he met. I witnessed him truly savoring and enjoying life all the time. We missed his smile when he retired to the east coast. He would write us once in a while to let us know he was still enjoying life...as we expected he would! Long live the "King". I know you'll be having a blast on the other side! Until we meet again my friend!

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Paul's passing. I last saw him this previous summer at the funeral of my husband, Douglas Kaulbach, who was Paul's uncle and shared his name. Paul spoke at that funeral and managed to liven even that solemn occasion. I will miss him. Aunt Helen.

I was sorry to read this. I only knew Paul briefly via his older brother David who I remember so dearly to this day & noted with great joy that apparently carried the traditional Zellar nickname from his brother. Linda I am thinking of you.

I met Paul for the first time in April 1977 as we entered "D" Block at "Depot" Division. From there we commenced our RCMP Training together. From my first encounter until we parted ways for different Division 6 month later, Paul made me smile. His outlook on the twists and turns of training immediately put a more favorable outlook on difficult challenges our Troop had to face. He was a catalist that helped bring 32 young men from different parts of Canada together. I can still see him, after lights out, in the washroom getting his kit ready for the next day. A great troopmate.

I was sorry to hear of Paul's passing. Although Paul & I were not in the same circle of friends, we grew up together in high school, and I still remember the hijinks we got into during our overnight restocking jobs at the IGA (much to the consternation of the store management). I only saw Paul occasionally after high school, usually at our mutual friend's cottage at Mush-a-mush lake, but every time we met he was consistently ebulliently friendly and welcoming, except when I butchered his nickname and called him 'Zell-er' instead of 'Zell-ah' - he'd get so frustrated with me. In fact the last time I saw Paul was at the lake.
Fair winds as you sail away, Paul.

Hi Michael, Thank you so deeply for sharing your memories of Paul. I had forgotten about his IGA after school job. The two of you must have had so much fun!! Paul was allways laughing and so happy to reconnect with friends from school, especially during his trips home from Manitoba. I chuckled as I read your comments. Diane

Shocked and saddened to hear of Paul's passing, we were friends in school and reconnected again years later through friends in common. He will always be "Zella". Never saw him angry or not smiling. Lots of fun times, laughs and great memories. To his family, please accept my deepest sympathies at this time of great loss.

lived nearby during our school years, spent many hours playing road hockey on Walnut St. beside his home. David and Paul were always part of the gang that used to travel around the neighborhood playing ball or hockey and spending time around the "dump" pond. Will be missed and gone too soon, RIP Paul
