Cuthbert (Bert) Thompson Struthers, 85
Port Morien, NS
We the family of Cuthbert (Bert) Thompson Struthers of Port Morien, announce his passing on November 13, 2022, in Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay. Born in Donkin, Bert was the son of the late Cuthbert and Mary Struthers.
Bert served in the Canadian Military for 22 years, which included 1st Canadian Guards, Royal Canadian Army Service Corps (RCASC) where he attained rank of Warrant Officer; he was attached to 2nd Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry (Winnipeg), 3rd PPCLI (Victoria), including 1 NATO tour aboard HMCS Restigouche, 2 Tours United Nations Peacekeeper, Cyprus, 1 Tour United Nations Peacekeeper, Egypt Administration Company, 1 Tour Germany (Soest).
Bert was also an avid Fisherman and Sportsman. He retired in Calgary, then moved to Vancouver, and in 2002 moved home to Cape Breton.
Bert is survived by his wife Norma of 64 years; two sons: Brian (Karen) and David (Sandra); two daughters: Cynthia (Hugh) and Ellen (Grant); two brothers: James and John Struthers; two sisters: Margaret Pac, Marie (Bill) Arnold; two sisters-in-law: Rita Woermke, and Mary Woermke; seven grandchildren: David (Melissa) Motley, Lindsay (Joel) Horning, Jeffrey (Natalie) Struthers, Mary (Rob) Shirley, William (Jessica) Motley, Colton (Anna) Verna, and Lane Verna; four great-grandchildren: Noah, Ethan, Deanna, and James Motley.
Besides his parents, Bert was predeceased by a sister Joan MacKeigan (Forester): mother and father-in-law, Fred, and Emma Woermke; brothers-in-law: Ernie, Leonard, Harold, Alfred, and Fred Woermke; Sisters-in-law: Freda (Delbert) Miller, Isabella (Edward) Demers, Edna Woermke, Esther Woermke, Yvette Woermke, and Marion Woermke.
A very special thank you to Dr. MacLean, and to the nurses and staff at Taigh Na Mara, for their exceptional service over the past seven years.
Cremation has taken place under the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS. 902-849-4199. There will not be a service at this time.
