Dear Grandpa, first off, thank you for your service, I wish I would have heard more about your dedication to service as I follow a similar path in my life. Words cant express my gratitude enough for what you gave me growing up and the unconditional love you showed me. I have so many great memories as a kid thanks to you. Our many fishing trips for flounder, graduating into salmon and halibut on the West Coast. Your passion for the ocean continues in your great grand children. Driving the mini long before I had a licence, the motorcycle rides, the car shows in the Cadillac, selling popcorn at the fireworks in Gas town, Disneyland, working along side you painting for the Indy, the Mcdonalds breakfasts and the endless change that always seemed to come from your pockets. Then there was the licorice straw in my orange C-plus pop at the auction! I will never forget those days! I remember your love for your animals, your generosity even when you and grandma may not have had much for yourselves, and you always had the best beef jerky. I think about you all the time and miss our time together before you moved away. I only wish I could have been able to visit you both more in the last few years. I wish my kids could have known you, how I knew you, they would have loved you so much. No matter how old I got, you were the only one who could get away with calling me Davey. You will always hold a special place in my heart! Grandma, I’m so sorry for your loss, you have been unbelievably dedicated to Grandpa, may your faith bring you some comfort! I love you both! I miss you both!
