Pius Gerard McIntyre, 72
Dominion, NS
It is with broken hearts and deep sadness that we announce the painful loss of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Pius Gerard McIntyre, aka “Mac" on September 30, 2022, at the age of 72.
Pius served thirty-one years of loyalty and dedication in the Canadian Armed Forces with both the Field and Air Defence Artillery. He retired in 1998 bearing the rank of Warrant Officer. Pius travelled many times, including a posting to Germany and an 8-month tour aboard HMCS Athabaskan during the Gulf War, on which he received the Chief of Defence Staff Commendation for his meritorious and exemplary service. Pius has made many lifetime friends during his time in the Forces, and treasured each and every one of them as they did him.
Pius is predeceased by his mother Mary Catherine, brother Simon, grandson Brandon, a sister in law Georgina (Sparkle), brother in law Dan and his lifetime good friend Fred.
He is sadly missed by his cherished wife of 50 years, Frances (Gouthro), daughter Connie McIntyre, son Frank (Rosanne) McIntyre, eight grandchildren, as well as a large circle of family and friends.
A very special thank you to the amazing staff at Glace Bay Hospital. Our heartfelt gratitude to the team from Sydney Hospice. Although his stay was short, they went above and beyond to make sure he felt at home. To T.J. Tracey’s Cremation and Burial Specialists for their care and kindness, particularly with the challenge of providing support while dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona.
Pius touched the lives of many people, and everyone loved him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 12-1 p.m., with a Celebration of Life to follow, with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding, all in T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS. 902.849.4199.
