During the Gulf War, Pius was my advisor, my confident and rock. I was junior officer in a tenuous situation, and an environmentally unfamiliar scenario, being army deployed at sea with the Royal Canadian Navy. Pius was always level headed and calm. He listened to my ideas and concepts for the deployment and made recommendations based on his years of experience. He always supported my final decision and he allowed me to develop into the officer that I would become throughout my career. He groomed me! He took his responsibilities seriously. He cared for the soldiers that he had oversight of and fulfilled his duties with exemplary fashion. Hence, his receipt of the CDS Commendation. It was the least I could do for a humble, solid man. Pius will be missed!
