Obituary of Susan Margaret Callighen

Susan Margaret Callighen (Vardy), aged 54, of Dartmouth, NS, passed away on September 8th, 2022, at Fall River, NS. Born in Halifax, NS. She was the daughter of the late Arthur P. Vardy and the late Barbara A. Vardy (Flemming). Susan is predeceased by her brother Arthur G. Vardy (December 2021). She is survived by her two sisters, Mary Clare Smicer (Gary); and Nancy Aptt (Dave); and Susan’s many nieces and nephews. Susan worked for the Provincial Government for several years. At the Alcohol and Gaming Division, Susan made many lasting friendships with her loving and kind personality. In 2015, Susan began working as a Case Worker for the Provincial Community Service Department. Once again, Susan won the hearts of all those who worked with her. Susan so often thought of others, and it was not unusual for her to just get a little gift or a card for someone who might be feeling down with the troubles that life sometimes throws our way. Or to put a little something in the mail for someone to cheer them up, even though she would see them just a few days later. Susan loved all seasons of the year. She loved to go for long walks or a bike ride. The true love of her life was “Walter” her orange tabby cat. Susan left this world way too soon. She has broken our hearts into pieces. She lit up a room with her beautiful smile and her wonderful laughter and witty humor. Arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Halifax, where visitation will be held on Wednesday September 28, 2022, at 11am followed by a celebration of life at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “Adsum House: of Halifax (Women’s Shelter) and/or “Bide Awhile” of Dartmouth (where Walter began his little life as a kitten).
