To the family,
I will always remember Doug for this: You walked away from an encounter with him feeling better than when you met. His easy going way and frequent humour couldn't help but generate good thoughts and a smile - both so necessary in today's turbulent world. I think Doug would be happy knowing he made others happy. A fine legacy, don't you think?
Thanks, Doug for making our world a bit brighter!
Cheers, my friend...

Our sincere condolences. 'Uncle Doug' is famous in our household, among our kids. Our kids spent a fair bit of time with him while we were house hunting. His implict understanding of our lifestyle, his patience, humor and easy ways endeared him to all of us. We are honored to have known him, and spent some good moments with him.

Maureen and family and Nancy and family I am so very sorry for your loss. Doug was a funny, happy and caring person. Before I actually met him at St Marks I knew of him through my late mother, Pearl Hupman, who always remarked on Doug’s fabulous hugs. She thought the world of him. He will be missed by all. Sorry to hear of Doug's passing. He was a friend of my husband's since their university days where they curled together. Doug always stopped to visit us in Bridgetown when travelling with his family business, and lobster and clams were definitely on the menu, as well as a few drinks, a cigar, and lots of laughs, of course. He was a great guy. I haven't seen him since my husband passed in 2008, but I'm sure they'll reconnect in the after life. Condolences to all the family.

I am so sorry for all of Doug's family, particularly, his sister Maureen, who has always been a close friend of the Wambolt family. Nancy, my heart goes out to you and yours. Hugs,

To the Family of Dougie Mullenger, my old friend.
Please accept my deepest sympathy and sincere condolences on the passing of a most wonderful human being!
I am so sorry and shocked to hear this sad news. Dougie always sent me n my family a beautiful Christmas card every year without fail. I missed seeing him at the golf course over the past number of years and our after golf jokes and libations.
I had so many rounds of golf and laughs with him over the last 25 years at Ashburn that you could not help but love the guy.
He was the only golfer I ever played with who would give you the play by play or continue telling a joke, as he went into his down swing! He loved "bingo bang bongo" and any other game like "greenies" and "6 6 n 6" , we could play so after seated at the table inside the clubhouse you would need an accountant to tally it all up.Doug always did it and his capacity for numbers was another talent he had.
His annual company tournament years ago at the Old Course, was always a tremendous event with staff like the great Jimmy Quinn et al, and assorted non employee characters who Doug liked ,thrown in for a bang up afternoon of golf, followed by an hysterical "prize" giving, MC'd by "The Douglas" himself, and of course many cold drinks and chasers to sooth the thirsty crowd of jewels who were there.Add the lovely the waitresses who were always handpicked, and the whole thing was tastefully done and an instant party!
Then we would have a sumptuous bbq with all the fixings, some well chosen wines, and after, cigars, cognacs and the laughs and jokes never ended.Thank you Doug for all your generosity and love.
Yes he was the most generous person, and one of the nicest most genuine people I have met in Halifax, or anywhere for that matter, and he knew more than most the value of true friendship, camaraderie, and what fellowship meant.
I shall miss you Dougie, but I will never forget you old pal, and Ashburn will never be the same without you.
May the Lord Bless you Nancy, and your family, and you Lynn, and your family, and all his loved ones, in your Hour of Sorrow ,and May The Lord Love Dougie like we all did.
Dougie never gave up - he had set backs like we all do, but he dug in, reinvented himself, and tried hard right to the end.
I have always admired that about him amongst his other great qualities.
He would always called me "Franco", and so Franco sends his best and will sign off with a prayer for Doug's Salvation and Everlasting Life with the Lord Jesus Christ Our Saviour.
As the gospels say, this is just the beginning, not the end.
Hallelujah!
God Speed Dougie.
Sincerely,
G Franklyn Hiscock.
