My wishes are that each of you MacKenzie Girls know how very loved your mom was. She really was a special human being – a free spirit and a wild heart, and I loved her. How could anyone not? Full of life, with an infectious laugh, a spectacular sense of humour, and the most genuine, fierce love for her girls. She shined a piece of that love on everyone who came into her life, and I consider myself fortunate to have been in the inner circle of your beautiful family for so many years growing up. From the time Hilary and I became friends in grade ten, and then went off to X together, I certainly banked many hours in my ‘second home’ aka the MacKenzie household. There are very few families that share the same level of closeness that I witnessed amongst you for so many years – and your mom was the epicentre of it all. It somehow doesn’t seem possible that her bright light burned out so quickly. While I can’t fathom the loss you all are going through, I do take comfort knowing that you will have each other to see you through this unspeakably challenging time and the days ahead.
